  • The capitalist class can't make the machine run without unnecessary suffering and death. They used to be able to keep it out of sight in the global South and Asia. Through greed, they kept bringing more and more to the global West. Too many westerners still handwave it away and bury their heads, but as population, and thus unnecessary suffering and death increases, so too the population that doesn't look away and entertain themselves to stop thinking and talking about it. We are a threat, so expect worsening conditions to be rapidly escalated. That said, hold hope and keep working for a more equitable day.

  • The UN serves as a forum for all countries of the world. If no privileges were given to the world's most powerful countries, they might just leave it, severaly reducing its use in the process.

And? You can see powerful countries abusing veto powers and that in no way should be on the human rights councils. If these countries refuse to uphold global standards, they're not in, and can be prosecuted.

  • It needs to re-form as something different. No state should have veto power, no state that bullies others, internally or externally should be on the security or human rights councils, no state that isn't signatory to charters should get any vote. States that refused to arrest on warrants should have membership revoked. Probably more but those would be good starting points.

  • "The Israeli public has been convinced over the years that it can exist here in the region while deeply disdaining all its neighbours and rampaging in a thuggish and murderous manner against everyone - whenever and however it wants - relying solely on brute force. "That's why there was something so substantial about the sight of the bombed-out buildings in Ramat Gan," he said. "They are so similar to the images we're used to seeing from Gaza. Those sooty grey skeletons of buildings, that billowing cloud of dust, that carpet of ash and rubble covering the street, those images of children's dolls in the hands of rescue teams. "The scale is, of course, completely different, but these images are nevertheless a momentary rupture of this disturbed fantasy that we are immune to everything," he added.

United States citizens should take note. We never seem to appreciate the consequences of our actions, at home or abroad, until they return to us. The people in the global South, the East, Middle -East--people around the world-- are humans like us, with struggles, sorrows, dreams and aspirations. We need to shake the boot off our necks, then lift it off our neighbors ' necks.

  • Israel strikes Iran

  • Is this in whole or part because Iran was threatening to leak secrets? If in part, is that just the pretext to doing it, anyway? Are Bibi troubles at home secondary to "I just wanted to do this?”
