absolutely! it’s the “need” that i have issue with. we need to protect the environment from plastic. they don’t need to reduce their burden by washing a few dishes the next day

if god is real, i truly believe people like this will not “pass” whatever test life is… if you think “god” is rules lawyering you’re a complete idiot… what you’re gonna sovcit an all seeing, all powerful entity? either strictly follow all the rules or make the choices based on the intent of the rule or the origin (ie someone saying people always get sick from eating X so god must not like it is, imo, not valid when we find out about allergies and food poisoning but was probably a good general rule before then!)

need these things to adhere to their religious and cultural prohibitions
i guess orthodox jews didn’t exist until the ~60s if the tools to practice their religion weren’t available before then… i always assumed they were around much longer than that! /s
also, thanks for the explanation!

that’s absolutely true too! there are multiple parties who share the responsibility… as always, the world is complex and rarely are things black and white

but also, spending energy on prevention (the publicity) and then when the thing doesn’t occur saying “i guess we were wrong” is the wrong take i think
same thing with Y2K and plenty of engineering things: people were saying “it was no big deal! yall were saying planes were going to fall out of the sky! we wasted so much time and money!”… yeah; it was a huge and expensive effort that’s why the bad things didn’t happen

i take hope from the fact that since the war begun people have been saying ukraine has no chance, and yet here we are with ukraine still existing and independent… i guess when you’re defending your home you can pull some pretty impressive manoeuvres out of nowhere that people hadn’t accounted for

and now we collaborate quite nicely! we share fire fighting helicopters and fire fighters often fly over to help each other, since our seasons are offset
hopefully that remains and isn’t just seen as “giving things away” and used as a bargaining chip in a perverse game of number go up

the drawbacks are that they’re made from cotton and plastics, which are all absolutely horrendous for the environment… cotton is among the worst offenders for water use, and polyester etc is bad in clothes let alone chucking an entire wet wipe multiple times per day

it’s absolutely wild that the US still allows this… it’s 1 of the first things my friends all comment on when travelling there (australia)
